Our destination was the northeast Wales to see the remains of Ewloe Castle then down to Llangollen to see the aqueduct.
The castle was located in a 160-acre forested park called Wepre. Finding the walker indication we set off across a field to the near by forest. I had found the castle on google maps satellite version for there was no indication that the path would lead to 13th century castle ruins.
When we reached the forest there was a sign that castle remains were nearby.
Following the footpath, we could see hints of walls through the trees and once through the trees to the cleared castle area. One the middle of the woods was the remains: a partial keep and partial opposite walls and the outline of the rest of the walls.
Followed this path and ended up on a road where we saw…

We took Horseshoe Pass to Llangollen and at the top of the mountain found . . . The Ponderosa.
Owner in the 60s had an obsession with the Cartwrights. We met two delightfully honest saleswomen in the gift shop, bought a few things and went on our way.
We had to stop to shoot the scenery and this crow seemed very interested in us. Evidently others have stopped and left treats. So we threw him some grapes.
After the pass, we found this tearoom and had a delicious, VERY filling lunch. All produce and meat was local. (We even saw it hauled in.)

Near sunset climbed the hill behind our place. Only saw the horses from a distance.

What a great place to visit! So many scenic spots to see. Have you mastered the Celtic “LL” sound yet?
I can do a passable “ll” sound, but I really have to concentrate. What gets really hard when a word has two “ll” sounds.
